SA 8000 - Social Accountability Standard
This standard enables company's to demonstrate to interested parties that policies, procedures and practices conform to the following requirements:
- Child Labour
- Forced Labour
- Health and Safety
- Freedom of Association & right to collective bargaining
- Discrimination
- Disciplinary Practices
- Working Hours, Remuneration & Compensation
The basic ISO 9001 requirements also apply i.e Management Review, Corrective Action, Suppliers & Subcontractors & Sub suppliers, Communication.
Local laws and regulations may also need to be taken into consideration depending on the country/location of the business. These may lead to the co-operation of:
- International Labour Organisation (ILO)
- Non-governmental organisations (NGO's)
- Grass-roots organisations (GRO's)
- Trade Unions
